County Champs - Final Weekend


Kimberley Swimming Club swimmers again competed over the final weekend of the Nottinghamshire ASA Age Group County Championships, held at Mansfield. The 'snowy' weekend saw most of Kimberley's County Qualifiers competing in a number of events and relays.

The top results for Saturday -

Jacqueline Jenkins-Weller finished first in the women's multi disability 50m freestyle and second in the 100m backstroke.

Matthew Shipley finished first in the 11/12yrs 50m freestyle to take the gold medal in a new personal best of 29.58. In the boys 11/12yrs 200m butterfly although Matthew made it through to the finals, unfortunately he didn’t finish the race.

Mollie Wright finished second in the girls 13/14yrs 400m freestyle, 4th in the 50m freestyle and 4th in the 200m individual medley heats and final

Charly Neilson finished third in the girls 13/14yrs 50m breaststroke and in the 200m individual medley achieved a Regional Qualifying time to add to her breaststroke qualifying times.

Joseph Kingsland (9yrs) qualified through to the final of the boys 9/10yrs 200m individual medley and came 5th in the final, achieving a 12year olds County Qualifying time in the process.

Chloe Bis finished 6th in the heats of the girls 9/10yrs 200 individual medley and 5th in the 50m freestyle

Bradley Francis (10yrs) finished 10th in the 9/10yrs 50m freestyle and made it through to the final of the boys 9/10yrs 200m individual medley and came 6th in the final.

Top results for Sunday –

Jacqueline Jenkins-Weller finished second in the women's multi disability 100m freestyle.

Joseph Kingsland (9yrs) finished 6th in the 9/10yrs 100m individual medley.

Matthew Shipley finished 4th in the 11/12yrs 1oom individual medley

Overall top ten awards, based on bagcat points, points achieved in their best sprint, form, medley and free, went to -

Ted Goonan - Dunne (9yrs) – 7th
Jimi Knowles (9yrs) - 8th
Imogen Spouge (9yrs) - 3rd
Lauren Shipley (9yrs) - 7th
Eleanor Aboutorab (9yrs) - 9th
Bradley Francis (10yrs) - 5th
Chloe Bis (10yrs) - 5th
Matthew Shipley (11yrs) - 1st ......County Champion
Charly Neilson (13yrs) - 3rd  
Mollie Wright (14yrs) - 3rd.

In the relay events that followed the 10yrs and under girls team made it through the heats to the final of the 200m medley and free final.
The medley team made up of - Katie Walker, Eve McGrenaghan, Imogen Spouge and Chloe Bis went on to come 2nd in the final and in the 200m free relay final the team made up of - Imogen Spouge, Lauren Shipley, Eleanor Aboutorab and Chloe Bis took the gold medals and the Championship title. 

Similarly the girls 14yrs and under team in both events made it through to the finals. In the 200m medley relay team made up of Jade Duffy, Charly Neilson, Gemma Calder and Mollie Wright took the silver medals whilst the 200m free team made up of Jade Duffy, Jade Calder, Gemma Calder and Mollie Wright, narrowly missed the medals, by less than half a second to finish fourth, which against tough opposition from around the County is still a great achievement.   

Well done to all the Kimberley swimmers that not only competed at the County Championships, but also qualified to compete at the Championships as that is an achievement in itself. Overall there were some great results, plenty of personals bests, trophies and top ten positions... so lets keep it up for next year and see if we can get even more top ten positions.
