Volunteering in The Gambia – January 2013

I’d like to thank everyone at Kimberley Swimming Club who sponsored me at the end of last year to raise funds towards my visit to The Gambia, to teach sport in schools. The money raised went towards buying equipment such as footballs, tennis balls, football kit and multi-sports equipment. The children and staff at all the local schools we went to truly appreciated the kit that was given. Just one football will really help benefit the children and bring happiness across the whole school. Once you saw the children’s faces light up from the kit we gave them and the tears of joy in the eyes of the headteachers, made you appreciate what we had back home, as they don’t have the luxury of having electricity, electronic devices, health care like we do or the amount of transport options we have like buses or trams, they just didn’t have that. I had a great time visiting the schools and the local villages, meeting the chiefs beforehand to gain permission to walk around their village, it was truly an experience.
Please see some of my photo’s below.

Thank you Rebecca Barsby.
