On Wednesday the 6th of May, Kimberley SC members Ben Barsby and Rebecca Barsby competed in opposing teams in the 2015 Nottingham Varsity Series. The Varsity Series being the annual sporting clash between the two Nottingham universities where they compete in over 15 sports battling it out for the overall trophy. Ben and Rebecca competed in the swimming competition, at the Nottingham University pool, Ben representing Nottingham University, who won the swimming overall and Rebecca representing Nottingham Trent University.
Ben competed in the 100m IM and came second on the touch just behind one of his fellow team mates, in a time of 1.01.86 (a 3 second PB). Rebecca on the other hand competing in a much smaller team of swimmers, competed in the medley relay (doing the fly leg) before competing in three individual events that she won - the 100m butterfly where she did a PB time of 1.07.74, swiftly followed by the 100m breaststroke (coming first for the third year on the trot) and finally the 50m medley skins (where the slowest of the eight swimmers get knocked out after each more or less back to back 50m race).
(Just goes to show that you can still p.b as you get older and also shows that there are other ways you can still compete if you decide to go onto University)
Well done Ben and Rebecca.
