Thank-you

Just a quick note to say thank-you for the card and the gift that was given to me on the presentation night. It is nice to be appreciated though I don't do what I do for personal rewards, and I can't do what I do without a fantastic team of 'staff' at the club.
I get my reward from seeing the swimmers ... from small pool, all the way up to the oldies in Lane 5 squad, enjoying what they do and having fun in their chosen sport.

Once again,

Thanks.

Recent Gala News

Sorry for not having updated this recently, so here goes!!

On the 1st October we travelled to Bramcote for the first round of the autumn J.C Dobb league.
We came third on this occasion just 3 points behind the winners Portland despite have 30 points deducted for going too fast in six events

Special mentions go to Eve McGrenaghan on her first gala and to Gemma Calder on a CQT in 50m Fly. Also to Charly, Elise, Ryan and Matthew who were a Derby all day for an Open,
Aiden, Callum and Holly who were at Clay Cross all day for an Open and to Denise who was in Northumberland this morning!

Thank you to Emma,Evie and Sue for helping.

On the 8th October we went to Sutton, this time for the first round of the Notts and District.

We won the gala by two points
Kimberley 242
Leander 240
Sutton 220
Portland 166
Southwell 134
Falcon 103

Well done to all.

Special mentions to Jade Calder on her first County Qualifying Time, to Nathan, Ryan, Jack and Adam for swimming up in the relays and some individuals, to Ben for 50m Back :-) and to Shiona on her first gala, to Robyn on achieving a CQT and apologies for leaving her behind at Kimberley!! Thanks to Niki Clements for coming to the rescue, and to Natalie for travelling all the way from Birmingham to compete.

Thanks to Sue, Wendy, Malcolm, Denise and Sharon for officiating/team managing and to Russ Pigott for standing in at the last moment as chief timekeeper. Also to Emma, Neil and Lisa for recording and announcing.

Unfortunately our win was marred by the fact one of our swimmers had his mobile phone and wallet stolen from his bag whilst it was on poolside. Other swimmers have had their bags searched, and a swimmer from Falcon has had their phone stolen. I don't know if any other club has suffered.

We, as a club were placed on poolside near to the showers at Lamass which you will probably know is away from poolside, so this theft could have been done by an outsider. The police and the leisure centre have been informed. I have made Notts a.s.a aware of this when booking Lamass and the fact that some club are placed away from poolside whilst there.

If anyone else has anything missing from their bag please let me know a.s.a.p or if any swimmer saw someone hanging around then let us know.

Also, unfortunately, we need to inform the parents to remind the swimmers that whilst at a gala they are representing the club and should be well behaved We had swimmers messing around in the showers and throwing water at each other. We shouldn't be telling them NOT to do this, they should know.

Two Minor Gala galas have taken place recently , Round One at Water Meadows and Round Two at Arnold.

At Water Meadows we came 4th
Special mentions go to Greg Brown - on achieving a first county qualifying time , Charly Neilson - 100m I/M cqt and Ryan Pigott - 2p.bs - also cqt's.
Also, the first places, Matthew Shipley 50m Back and the two nine year old Medley relay teams and Katie Walker and Thomas Bowhay on their first gala.

At Arnold We came 5th on the night.
Special mentions to Jade Calder on a new CQT - 100m I/M, Elise Yorston a new CQT - 100m Free, To Shaun Manchester and Callum Williamson for standing in at late notice, to Ryan(2), Morgan, Aiden, Nathan, Charly, Jade C, Elise and Greg for their p.bs.

Speedo 500m Open Water Swim

Saturday 23rd July saw Adam Gregory compete in The Speedo Big Swim At the National Water Sports Centre at Holmepierpoint, Nottingham.

Wet Suit on, weather conditions were good and with a Water temperature of 17.5 degrees, he dived in with the ducks at 3pm for the 500m race.

The first 50m was the hardest as he adjusted to the cold, the weed on his feet and the choppy water but gradually his head went down and a steady stroke was achieved and a time of 11min 56 Secs was recorded, this gave an overall 12th place finish.

A big well done to Adam

p.s If anyone else in the club took part in the big swim or had a go at the taster open water session let us know how you got on.

A reminder re swimwear!!!!

From January 2009, the rules changed regarding what swim suits can be worn for competition swimming as determined by FINA the sports governing body.

Please be aware that Female swimmers will only be allowed to use costumes that do not extend past the knee and do not cover the arms whilst the Male swimmers can only wear trunks or jammers (i.e from the hip to the knee)

There are a lot of websites/shops selling swimsuits cheaply. Please make sure you buy the correct gear for competion swimming.

ALSO PLEASE NOTE, in competition swimming, the swimmers are NOT permitted to wear two costumes. If caught they will be disqualified.

Leicester Diddy League Final 25th June

On Saturday 25th we travelled to Braunstone for the final of the Leicester Diddy League. The swimmers swam brilliantly to record a third place finish thus jumping a place to finish third in the League this year.

The often very noisy gala had the usual parade around the pool by the six finalist and also a visit from a giant penguin! For those with ideas the answers no!!

Jessie Henderson started the gala superbly for the club with victory in the opening race, the girls 25m Breast, with Matthew Shipley following suit a couple of races later in the 25m free. Matthew was once again a winner in the 25m Back and our next two wins came from Mollie Wright in the 50m Free and 50m Fly. These were the only wins on the night but plenty of seconds and thirds were enough for our overall points tally.

Special mentions on the night go to Jade Duffy, Holly Orme, Florence Orme and Charly Pink who all had just the one swim, never complained but contributed greatly to the team effort.

Once again, well done to ALL the swimmers.

Behaviour

Recently, especially in squad sessions, we have had problems with the behaviour of SOME swimmers.

We don't expect all kids to be angels but we do expect them to want to train, listen to what they are being told and to show some respect for the teachers/coaches (who are all unpaid volunteers) and other swimmers who do want to train.

Please remind your children to respect others and to behave. If they don't want to train then they shouldn't really be in squad sessions.

In the future, any swimmer who disrupts the session, will be asked to leave that session so those that do want to swim can swim.

Galas

A reminder that for all the Saturday evenings in May and the first few Saturdays in June we have a gala.

Look out for the pink slips!!

Diddy League Round One - 09/04/2011

Hello all,

Just a note to say sorry you all had a wasted journey tonight. Obviously this had nothing to do with me. Apparently Braunstone Leisure Centre had no record of a pool booking being made by the gala organisers and had no staff present. Other clubs and Diane offererd to lifeguard but with no proof of being a lifeguard the centre would not budge, hence no gala,

I waited until 6.15 and think I was able to apologise to any latecomers. If I missed someone then I'm sorry.

I will of course let you know if they reshedule the gala, though when I haven't got a clue.

Time keeping Course

We have a number of parents taking part in a timekeeping , judge level one course.
Some Sunday squad sessions over the coming weeks will be sprint based whilst this course is taking place to allow those taking part to practice their timekeeping and judging of strokes, starts, turns etc.

Diddy League Time Trials 27th March

The time trials at Heanor on the 27th March are aimed for ALL SQUAD swimmers 12YRS old and younger (age as of 30th June 2011) and Lane 5 improvers swimmers and will consist of 25m Sprints for the 11yrs and under ages and 50m for the 12yr olds.

The first round of the Diddy League is on the 9th April at Braunstone.

Team selection will be based on the fastest swimmer at that event allowing for the usual restrictions on the number of swims a swimmer can do. It is possible the swimmer may only have one event but their contribution will be just as important as a swimmer doing 3 or 4 events. If selected for this gala /competition please make every effort to attend.

Alan

EASTER COMPETITION

Kids, look out for the entry forms for the design an egg and colour a picture competition to win an Easter Egg. One girl and boy in each age group will win.
Age Groups 3/4; 5/6; 7/8; 9/10; 11 and over.

Novice Gala 17th April

NOVICE GALA PLUS 50m TIME TRIALS

The entries for our Novice Gala so far, are disappointingly low so we have decided to open up the gala to squad swimmers as 50m time trials. This will help us make maximum use of the 25 pool time we have booked at Hucknall on 17th April.
As a reminder
All children in the improver session – regardless of age are recognised as Novice’s and are eligible to participate and compete for awards.
All squad swimmers age 10 and under are also eligible to participate and compete for awards – provided they have never taken part in the Nottinghamshire County Championships.
If your child is in the main pool improver sessions, please encourage them to have a go at the Novice Gala, no matter what Lane they are in.
This is their gala and they have a chance of winning medals to recognise their achievements.
Small pool children may also enter in the wiggly worm and kicking with a float event. (a competent swimmer will be in the pool in every lane if required to make sure our swimmers are not overwhelmed by their race)
It is expected that all Lane 5 improver session swimmers take part.

The annual Novice Gala is a chance for our up and coming swimmers to show what progress they are making and for the club to record real gala event times which help us pick our gala squads for this years club competition gala’s

The 50m Time Trials (plus 100m I/M) are aimed mainly at the 12yr and under swimmers though older swimmers can take part if they feel they need some up to date times
or have a pink T Shirt to aim for!

Volunteers are wanted to help out at the gala for all roles.…..We are in desperate need for a volunteer to do the announcing.
Please note if you don’t have a ‘job’ to do at the gala you will not be allowed on poolside.
