Follow the link below to find out the new fees for membership and swimming sessions for the new year.
We are faced with a 20% increase in pool hire and lifeguard cost in 2011 as well as a 17% increase in the asa fees.
The session fees at KSC have not changed for 3 years and we only implemented a marginal increase in the asa fees for 2010.
The club and committee have tried to keep our 2011 fees as low as possible.
However increases in both are now unavoidable. We appreciate your understanding on this subject.

Increase in fees
From the beginning of January 2011 the club will be charged extra for pool hire and the A.S.A will be increasing their membership fees.
We want to give you advance notice that we will have to raise our fees but rest assured we will try hard to keep the costs of membership and swim sessions as low as we can. At the time of writing we are not sure of the exact rise we need to implement. Please check the blog for an update nearer January. (Fees to swim have not increased for the last 3 years, and the cost of membership has only increased in line with the additional fees the ASA charge us over the last 3 years)

If you don’t want to receive updates we ask that you at least check the blog for all the latest news.
We are also looking into ways of communicating with you by txt message in extreme situations ( similar to how schools txt you ) i.e like the recent cancellation of the Wednesday evening session doe to the weather.

A message for all
The club wish to respectfully remind all its volunteers, parents and swimmers that when using social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter, they should remember that it is easy to offend others with comments, even if written as a joke.
Many of you are the faces of Kimberley Swimming Club and we are sure you will agree that we all need to preserve the good reputation of our club (and yourselves) especially on any posts involving the club.

E.ON splashes out for Kimberley Swimming Club
Kimberley Swimming Club has been awarded a grant from E.ON’s Employee Community Fund, courtesy of E.ON employee Sharon Knowles.
The grant of £1,740 will be used to pay for specialist aquatic teaching for both able bodied and disabled young people, as well as courses for poolside helpers who assist in disability sessions.
Sharon Knowles, who works in IT at E.ON’s Sherwood Park offices, has been a keen volunteer at Kimberley Swimming Club for the past five years and is involved in not only teaching, but fundraising for the club as well as the organisation of social activities for the swimmers and their families.
“Kimberley Swimming Club provides an excellent service for young people in the local community, many of whom would otherwise not be able to enjoy swimming lessons, and I’m delighted E.ON is able to help in this way,” said Sharon.
“The award will pay for more of our volunteer helpers to become qualified aquatics teachers and go towards ensuring future and long term sustainability of the club.”
The E.ON Employee Community fund invites applications from employees based in the UK for funding of up to £2,000 for charities and community organisations that support education projects or vulnerable consumers.

Minor Gala League Round Two - 16/10/2010
In tonights gala at Retford we came 4th. For various reasons we only had one 11yr girl swim, so well done to all those that swam up in age and to the rest of the swimmers.
Special mention tonight to Jessica Hawksworth for a 12 second p.b in the 100m IM , to Charly Neilson for a 6sec 100m Free p.b, to Jack Brown for swimming with one good eye, to Shaun Manchester and Marshall Brougham from the improver sessions, to Sue Jervis for standing in as chief timekeeper, and to all you parents for the 70mile round trip. Its a pity the nature of the gala limited the amount of swims your child was able to do.

Well done Lauren, we are all proud of you.

Congratulations to Mollie Wright and Lauren Gill
KSC are proud to be able to congratulate and report that Lauren Gill managed to recover sufficiently from a serious knee injury to be able to travel to Majorca with her Nova team mates and take part in a swim training camp designed for elite swimmers. Despite Lauren’s recovery being very late in the day, she is making steady progress and still hopes to compete in the Youth National Championships in mid July. We wish her every success.
The club are also proud to be able to congratulate Mollie Wright on becoming the Midlands 200m Freestyle and 800m Freestyle champion following her participation in the Midland District Age Group Championships in early June. Mollie collected a haul of medals and after a long couple of weekends swimming finished in 3rd position overall in the 11 year girls age group – a fantastic achievement. Mollie is now looking forward to the National Age Group Championships later in July. Good Luck Mollie!

Fun Day/Fun Gala 31/07/2010
On 31st July the club will be holding its annual Fun Day & Gala with games & BBQ on the field before the gala begins. The fun will kick off at 1pm on the school field next to the Leisure centre, with games of Tag Rugby, British Bulldog and others before the BBQ is ready. Ahoy, me Hearties!
Well shiver me timbers all ye swimmers and ye landlubber parents now that we have made the final of the 2010 Leics Diddy League!! Its time to heave ho and make our plans for the Diddy League Final. For all them that’s not bin to this final afore, it’s a special night, for there’s booty to be had…………
Anyway that’s enough pirate talk for just now……. For those of you who have never been to the Diddy League Final before, you wont know what a fab night it is for our swimmers and parents alike. There is usually a great atmosphere and all of the teams in attendance walk a circuit of the pool (lap of honour) before the gala begins. In years past our teams have worn -
• “Team PINK” T shirts including parents who also wore pink wigs, glasses etc ( some will do anything to get noticed)
However last year we didn’t do anything special……… which was a shame………. and so this year we are back by popular demand, and we plan to be …….. wait for it ……., KSC PIRATES for the Diddy League Final. We have designed a T shirt, £5 each regardless of size which can be ordered at the desk and we invite as many swimmers, parents, siblings, aunts uncle’s & grandparents to join us as pirates as we sail in the Jolly Roger down the M1 to Barunstone Pool on June 26th
Please join in the fun by ordering a T shirt, or wearing your own pirate outfit ( we don’t need to know why you may already have one of those in your wardrobe!!) The last date for shirts to be ordered and paid for is Wednesday 2nd June so dig out ye pieces of eight and get your T shirt ordered. See below for a mock up of the design.

Open Meets...What are they?
We have recently been asked by a few parents about Open Meets. What are they and who are they aimed at?
Open meets are run by swimming clubs or groups of swimming clubs and cover a full range of age groups and events and occupy a full weekend or just one day at a weekend.
These are galas designed for the individual swimmer, although they will still swim under their clubs name. There is a fee payable (by the swimmer) for each event entered – usually around £3.00 to £4.00 per event.
The importance of open meets is that they give swimmers valuable experience of competition and above all provide them with times to measure their progress. They are also very important to obtain qualifying times for County, Regional and National competitions.(Licensed meets from levels 1,2 and 3 use computerised results service to enable data to go into the national ranking system. You can check your rankings if you have competed in one of these on the British Swimming website at British Swimming - under swimming-rankings, you will need your ASA Registration number for this).
The meets are in four levels and reflect the grade of swimmer for whom the competition is designed.
Level 1 is aimed at National qualifiers, or swimmers close the National qualification, looking for opportunities to achieve National qualifying times.
Level 2 is aimed at District qualifiers.
Level 3 is for Club swimmers who are looking for County qualifying times.
Level 4 is for Club swimmers who are just beginning competition. (our own club champs would be classed as a level 4)
Each level has ‘qualifying times’ - which may include an upper limit (a swimmer cannot have produced a time faster than this) and/or a lower limit (a swimmer cannot have achieved a time faster than this)
Swimmers are ‘seeded’ according to their entry times - which means they will swim against others of the same ability regardless of age.
Results are determined either by finals (in age groups) or by the fastest swims in the heats (called heat declared).
There are usually trophies and/or medals for the top three or six in each age group.
A swimmer is not chosen to compete in opens but the club does recommend certain galas and would like swimmers to support these.
Any swimmer aged 9 and over is welcome to attend open meets providing they meet the qualifying criteria, however that swimmer MUST be Category Two Registered.
The club has an open meet co-ordinator - Steve Beecham (Steve does the small pool on Saturday nights)Steve usually works out which Open Meets are suitable for our swimmers and hands out the entry information to those swimmers that are Cat 2 registered.
These are some of the Open Meets swimmers from our club attend.
Open Meets 2010
Some swimmers choose different open meets to the ones Steve picks. A full list of Open Meets throughout the country can be found by clicking on the link below. All we ask is that we are notified if the swimmer is taking part in an open meet so that all times achieved can be added to the clubs database and that club galas should take preference.

County Champs Relays 21/03/2010
The final day of the county champs saw the club field 12 relay teams, with all the swimmers who took part in the championships plus a couple of others taking part.
Unfortunately we had two disqualifications in the opening event the girls 10/u Medley with both A and B teams making mistakes.
The next relay the boys 10/u freestyle saw the boys win their heat and qualify for the final where they finished 5th place overall.
The girls 12yr medley team finished 12th overall followed by the boys 12yr freestyle with the lads missing out on a final place by just 0.37 seconds, then the girls 14/u team came 8th despite having two eleven year olds swimming... a great effort.
The afternoon session saw two more teams make finals, the boys 10/u medley and the boys 12/u medley with a fourth place and fifth place respectively. Well done boys.
Both girls 10/u teams atoned for their earlier mistakes with the B team finishing in 15th place and the A team in 9th.
The girls 12yr freestyle team finished 7th overall and once again the 14/u Medley team finshed 8th.
Well done to all the swimmers, not just for today but for the whole championships.
